‘Pretty Women III’ sting in Lawton results in 25 arrests and 2 trafficking victims identified

1/17/2013 – Lawton, OK — A three day sting in Lawton, targeting online prostitution, has resulted in the arrest of 25 individuals and the identification of two possible human trafficking victims.

Dubbed Operation Pretty Women III, the multi-jurisdictional sting included agents and officers from the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs (Human Trafficking Unit), Homeland Security and the Lawton Police Department.

JohnTV began receiving information about this sting early on, but was asked (along with other media outlets) to not report on the sting until after it concluded yesterday.

Few details have been released at this point and no defendants have been formally identified.

What we do know is that the sting centered around Backpage.com posts and most of the arrests occurred at three Lawton area motels; the LaQuinta Inn, located at 1408 NW 40th, the Hampton Inn & Suites, 2610 Cache Rd. and Fairfield Inn & Suites, 201 SE 7th.

Those arrested have been described as; nine females suspected of engaging in prostitution, 13 males suspected of engaging in soliciting prostitution (‘Johns’) and one male suspected of being a pimp – bringing the arrest total to 23. Two additional females engaged in prostitution were taken into custody and later identified as possible human trafficking victims.

Authorities say that some defendants drove 100+ miles in search of prostitution and at times demand was so high that undercover females officers where scheduling meetings with suspected ‘Johns’ just 20-60 minutes apart.

JohnTV will continue to follow this case and will report the identities of those arrested when or if they are made available.

Oklahoma man and woman plead guilty to federal charges related to child sex trafficking

1/17/2014 – Oklahoma — A man and woman with ties to Oklahoma City and Tulsa have both pleaded guilty to federal charges stemming from their participation in child sex trafficking in Oklahoma.

JohnTV has previously reported on the criminal activities of Ronald E. Spivey, 47, and Kimberly Haven, 25.

Spivey first dropped onto JohnTV’s radar back in Aug. of 2012 when he was one of 48 individuals arrested in a three-day prostitution sting in Oklahoma City. In that arrest it was alleged that Spivey, aka ‘Big Daddy,’ transported an individual for the purpose of prostitution. In April of last year Spivey pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor charge and was sentenced to pay a $2,000 fine, $300 VCA, court costs and complete alcohol and drug assessment. According to court records his punishment was limited to a ‘fine only’ – meaning no probationary period and no obligation to find gainful employment. This, despite Spivey’s known history as a violent pimp, human trafficker and a felony record dating back to 1998. This is further proof Oklahoma County prosecutors do not take pimping, prostitution and human trafficking serious enough to actually positively impact the problem.

Kimberly Haven Facebook prostitute Pic 04

Kimberly Haven as she appears on social media.

Within six-months a new warrant was issued for Spivey’s arrest for failure to pay his fines and court costs.

JohnTV next reported on Spivey and Haven in Sept. of last year after they were named in a federal grand jury indictment stemming from an arrest in Tulsa.

According to court and police records, the duo contacted what they thought was a 17-year old advertising herself as a prostitute on Backpage.com and suggested that she go with them to Vegas or Florida ‘to work.’ In reality, the online ad was placed by undercover officer with Tulsa’s Vice Unit.

Eventually Spivey and Haven met up with the faux-hoe at a Tulsa area McDonald’s in an effort to convince her to travel to Dallas with them.

Haven reportedly told the undercover officer that she was “recruiting girls to prostitute.”

Spivey and Haven were then arrested and shortly thereafter charged in Tulsa County with felony attempted human trafficking.

Those charges were dropped in Oct. of last year so that the pair could be prosecuted in federal court as a result of the Sept. federal indictment.

With the federal indictment came additional public documents that provided more details, not only to the crimes alleged against both Spivey and Haven, but also to background information on Haven that led JohnTV to question whether or not Haven should be treated as a predator or a victim.

Almost immediately Haven pleaded guilty to federal charges of racketeering and interstate trafficking. In her plea agreement Haven admitted to using telephone and Internet services to facilitate a prostitution business. Specifically, Haven stated she placed prostitution related ads online in July of 2013 and that she used her cellular phone to communicate and attempt to recruit girls to work as prostitutes.

Ronald Spivey in a 2006 DOC mugshot.

Spivey pleaded guilty this week to federal charges of attempted coercion and enticement of a minor [to engage in prostitution]. Spivey was originally charged federal with attempted coercion and enticement of a minor x2, attempted sex trafficking of children x2, and interstate trafficking and racketeering x2.

Haven’s sentencing is set for Jan. 30, where she faces up to five-years in prison and a fine up to $250,000.

Spivey’s formal sentencing has been set for April 17, where he faces a minimum sentence of 10-years and a maximum sentence of life behind bars and a fine of $250,000.

It is important to note that Haven was pursued as a criminal defendant and now faces up to five years in prison despite the fact that federal prosecutors acknowledged in Haven’s plea agreement that Spivey was her pimp and that he “used violence and coercion” to manage her (see graphic below, click for larger version). That acknowledgment alone qualifies Haven as a human sex trafficking victim.

Despite prosecutors acknowledging Haven as a sex trafficking victim, they still sought to imprison her.

Despite prosecutors acknowledging Haven as a sex trafficking victim, they still seek to imprison her.

Additionally, federal prosecutors agreed that they would not object to Spivey receiving the minimum sentence allowed by law and would not seek an upward variance (a longer period of imprisonment).

JohnTV will continue to follow this case to its conclusion.

Robinson Ave. pimp convicted of maiming prostitute released from prison

1/18/2014 – OKC, OK — A Oklahoma City pimp has been released from prison after serving only one-third of his sentence for the violent assault and battery on a prostitute that left her permanently disfigured.

JohnTV.com first reported on Randall Lloyd McDonald back in 2009 after he was sentenced to 12-years in prison for the 2008 robbery, assault and maiming of long time South Robinson Ave. street prostitute Darlene Elaine Pine.

Darlene Elaine Pine 2007

Darlene Elaine Pine 2007

Pine was 40-years old when she was attacked by McDonald, who was 41.

McDonald was well known to police and already had a felony record for multiple charges of conspiracy to conceal stolen property, concealing stolen property, destruction of evidence, false impersonation and drug dealing.

Pine was one of McDonald’s prostitutes and according to court records was attacked near I-35 and SE 29 after McDonald accused her of holding out money from him.

At one point McDonald began beating pine and struck her several times with a tire iron – breaking multiple bones in her face and blinding her in one one.

Laying on the ground bloodied and broken, McDonald then removed Pine’s clothing and took money (up to $1,500) that she had hidden in her vagina.

McDonald was arrested soon after and charged in Oklahoma County court with three felonies.

Pine testified against McDonald in court (something extremely rare for a pimp’s prostitute to willingly do) in late 2009. McDonald was convicted and sentenced to 12-years in prison.

McDonald as pictured on his 2014 DOC release date.

McDonald as pictured on his 2014 DOC release date.

Unfortunately, 12-years for almost killing someone and then stealing their last dime actually only means a fraction of that time will be served.

Just last week McDonald was released from prison after only serving fours years of the original 12-year sentence.

As a multiple time convicted pimp and woman abuser, JohnTV speculates it won’t be long before McDonald is seen again preying on women on S. Robinson Ave.

As for Pine….. JohnTV was hopeful she had learned a lesson from her brush with death as she was never seen again working the streets and for years she avoided any new criminal charges. unfortunately, in a strange twist of fate, the day before McDonald was released from prison, Pine was charged with one or more felony crimes in Oklahoma County.

Details of those charges have not yet been released.

If you see McDonald acting in a way that appears he is back to drug dealing and pimping, please call police and then send us a message.

Below is a FOX25 news story regarding McDonald’s conviction back in 2009.

Tulsa woman’s federal child sex trafficking case dismissed

1/19/2014 – Tulsa, OK — Federal prosecutors in Tulsa have dropped child-sex-trafficking charges against a Oklahoma prostitute wanted in Oklahoma City on prostitution and weapons charges in a separate case.

JohnTV has previously reported on 23-year old Alaina Paige Lamecker; first in July of last year when she was one of 60 arrested in Oklahoma City during the FBI’s annual  ’Operation Cross Country.’

In that case, Lamecker was subsequently charged in Oklahoma County with felony offering to engage in prostitution and a gun possession charge.

JohnTV next reported on Lamecker when – only a month later – she was arrested in Tulsa for child-sex-trafficking.

In that case it was reported that Lamecker was instrumental in the prostitution of a 14-year old female in a Tulsa motel (see actual Backpage.com ad from this case below). As a result she was charged federally with two counts of sex trafficking a minor.

Timothy Oaks & Alaina Lamecker - Facebook & Mugshots

Timothy Oaks & Alaina Lamecker – Facebook & Mugshots

Revealed in court papers was the fact that Lamecker’s boyfriend (and possible pimp) Timothy Romero Oakes Jr. was also allegedly involved in the prostitution activities of the teen victim in Tulsa – Oakes’ own private cell phone number appeared on the online ad depicting the juvenile being prostituted.

Oakes previously worked as a detention officer for the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Department at the Oklahoma County Jail. Oakes was fired and subsequently criminally charged after it is alleged he smuggled contraband into the jail for inmates. Items Oakes is alleged to have smuggled included cell phones, marijuana, tobacco, hex tools and pills.

On January 13, U.S. Attorney Danny C. Williams Sr. filed a motion to dismiss the child sex trafficking charges against Lamecker.

The next day Lamecker posted a vague reference to the case on her Facebook page…

Alaina Paige Lamecker Facebook Prostitute Quote 01-14-2014

The dismissal of the case seems to be the result of a Motion to Compel Discovery filed by Lamecker’s defense attorney on Jan. 3.

In that motion, Federal Public Defender Julia L. O’Connell argued that the defense was being denied access to the now 15-year old victim. The defense further argued that statements made by the juvenile were inconsistent and that there was not compelling proof that Lamecker was directly involved in the juveniles prostitution activities.

Also revealed in the defense’s motion was the allegation that the juvenile victim’s own mother had encouraged Lamecker to “assist [the juvenile] in making money by teaching [the juvenile] to be a prostitute without using a pimp.”

According to the defense, the juvenile’s mother was never questioned about those allegations and prosecutors refused to provide the defense with the identity of the juvenile’s mother.

In closing the defense argued, in part, “… the government is blocking access to witnesses necessary to the defense by withholding contact information. The disclosure of such information is material to the preparation of Defendant’s case. Defendant has been unable to locate witnesses and believes that they have left the region. …”

Lamecker is currently wanted by police on an outstanding warrant stemming from her Oklahoma prostitution and weapons case.

Oakes is next scheduled to appear in court on his contraband smuggling case next week at a preliminary hearing in front of Oklahoma County Judge Johnson.

According to social media postings, Oakes and Lamecker are still in a ‘relationship’ and she plans to relocate from the Tulsa area to Oklahoma City in the very near future.

No reason has been given as to why Lamecker and Oakes have not both been charged with at least aiding and betting in the prostitution of the juvenile victim.

JohnTV will continue to follow these cases.

UPDATED: JohnTV puts neighborhood on notice that a violent pimp is living amongst them

1/21/2014 – OKC, OK — Yesterday JohnTV’s own Video Vigilante Brian Bates distributed fliers (see flier images at bottom of article) in an upscale gated NE Oklahoma City neighborhood in an effort to put residence on notice that a violent felon pimp has been living nearby.

The flier distribution was covered locally by Lisa Monahan with KWTV News9.

Bates’ fliers were targeting life-long felon and violent S. Robinson Ave. pimp Gregory Keith Crawford, 39, of Oklahoma City.

Crawford’s adult criminal resume goes all the way back to when he was 19-years old and charged with trafficking cocaine in Oklahoma County. Fastforward 20-years since then and Crawford has faced charges of DUI, destruction of evidence, driving with a suspended license, concealing stolen property, driving under revocation, inattentive driving resulting in a collision, possession and distribution of ‘turkey dope,’ stolen vehicle, false impersonation, engaging in reckless conduct with a firearm, possession of drugs, possession of a firearm while committing a felony, obstructing an officer, drug trafficking and aiding and abetting prostitution.

Crawford has also been the target of Victim’s Protective Orders and pursued by the state of Oklahoma for being a deadbeat dad.

You can read a more complete profile of Crawford at this link.

Gregory Keith Crawford Pimp

Crawford is currently awaiting trial on a 2012 Cleveland County case for felony possession of drugs, driving under suspension, failure to carry insurance and most disturbing – causing a minor to become involved in a drug crime.

Specifically; back in July of 2012 Crawford was traveling through Moore in a vehicle with two 15-year old girls when he was pulled over by police.

Allegedly Crawford tossed three pieces (rocks) of meth into the lap of one of the girls and told her to “get rid of it.” In a panic the young girl swallowed one of the meth rocks.

Additionally, the arresting officer noticed Crawford trying to destroy drug evidence and possibly reaching for a weapon. The officer could not get Crawford under control until he pointed his service revolver at him.

Crawford’s most recent case is a drama unto itself; He has delayed facing justice for over a year and a half, has had three warrants issued in this case alone for not showing up to court (in some cases because he was incarcerated in other counties for other crimes), had his lawyer quit because he claimed Crawford was no longer communicating with him and refuses to follow his advice. Crawford’s bond has gone from $5,000 to $10,000, back to $2,500 and then up to $20,000. However, on Dec. 17, Crawford’s bond was removed altogether and he was released on a personal recognizance bond (meaning, even though he rarely shows up to court, he ‘promises’ he will next time).

Even though Crawford didn’t have to put up bond, and was allowed to apply for a public defender (meaning you and I have to pay his lawyer), he was allowed to walk out of jail and move into a family member’s $400,000 home in a gated community near NE 50 and N. Sooner Rd.

The home listed on court documents as Crawford’s residence is located at 5512 Strait Drive and belongs to a local Bishop by the name of Malcom W. Coby Sr.

It is believed Coby is a relative of Crawford’s (possibly a step-father or uncle).

Crawford’s release from custody does come with conditions (see court document below); Crawford is to make telephone contact daily with his PTR supervisor and in person weekly. Crawford has also been given a curfew from 6 p.m. until 9 a.m. daily. Crawford is also not allowed to consume alcohol or visit places where alcohol is distorted (bars). Crawford is not to consume any illicit drugs. Crawford is also required to maintain full time employment. Crawford also cannot posses any weapons on his body or in his residence. Crawford is also required to be electronically monitored (most likely by means of an ankle monitor).

Crawford’s release back into the public was agreed to by Cleveland County District Attorney Greg Mashburn. Mashburn has a history of being easy going on dangerous offenders such as Crawford.

Before distributing fliers, Bates first confirmed Crawford was indeed living at or at least frequenting the Coby residence. On three occasions Bates made visual contact of Crawford coming and going from the residence – most recently last week when Crawford was the passenger in Coby’s black Mercedes as they left the house around 10 a.m. and stopped at a nearby gas station with an attached McDonald’s fast-food restaurant.

Bates distributed approximately 25 fliers to homes in the immediate area.

JohnTV is making no allegations against Bishop, Malcom Coby and we sincerely hope he is providing a positive influence on Crawford. However, JohnTV feels it is imperative that families in the area are made aware of Crawford’s presence in their neighborhood as he has proven himself to be very violent and not rehabilitatable.

JohnTV will continue to follow this case.

Article calls out Oklahoma churches for complacency regarding the victimization of women

1/22/2013 – Oklahoma — An article by WorldMag.com, highlighting the efforts of the founders of ‘She’s Somebody’s Daughter,’ brings to light an obstacle many organizations face when trying to unite in a worthy cause…. complacency and hypocrisy that often comes from those who publicly and literally place themselves on a pedestal while snubbing their noses at their community obligations.

This obstacle is organized religion – specifically churches that prefer to further their agendas over furthering the good of their community and congregation.

The article, which was published online today, puts in perspective the reality that is often overlooked or ignored for fear of upsetting powerful pastors.

Steve Siler and ministry partner Tammy Stauffer have fought hard to bring the  ’She’s Somebody’s Daughter’ to churches and in turn the public at large.

According to the She’sSomebodysDaughter.org website

She’s Somebody’s Daughter is a movement started by concerned parents Steve Siler and Tammy Stauffer, spurred on by other concerned parents, grandparents, and organizations who have helped to sponsor billboards in Oklahoma City, OK and Nashville, TN, and with the creation of this website.

Working together it is our desire to be voices for daughters everywhere, raising awareness about the connections of pornography to sex trafficking, sexual abuse and our over-sexualized culture, and to encourage others to honor women.

As Siler and Stauffer soon learned, leading the fight with a very noble goal does not mean you will be well received within the ranks of organized religion.

From the article…

As he and ministry partner Tammy Stauffer bring the She’s Somebody’s Daughter message to churches, they’ve encountered what Siler considers the worst kind of opposition—complacency.  “Tammy and I went to Oklahoma City 15 times over a 20-month span,” he said. “We contacted 423 churches during that time, either by mail, or phone, or personally. When we did our initial launch, we had four churches represented. To say that’s appalling doesn’t even begin to cover it.”

The excuses from church leaders abound: The church is too busy; they don’t have that problem here; they just want to focus on Scripture and get right with God; they already did that back in September.

Behind the excuses, Siler believes are other, deeper factors, like the fact that the pastors themselves may be struggling with porn and afraid to jeopardize their job, family, and reputation. Other churches are afraid to speak out on a hot-button issue like porn because it could drive away congregants and hurt their bottom line.

Breaking: OKC pimp felon arrested last night for child sex trafficking

1/23/2014 – OKC, OK — You Heard It Here First! A local man who was arrested in the last two ‘Operation Cross Country’ stings was arrested again last night – this time for child sex trafficking.

JohnTV first reported on Philip Bush Gatson III back in 2012 when he was one of 50 arrested locally in a annual nationwide FBI led anti-prostitution sting dubbed ‘Operation Cross Country.’

In that sting Gatson, 22, was charged in Oklahoma County with misdemeanor aiding and abetting prostitution.

As proof the wheels of justice move at a painfully slow pace in Oklahoma County, even though Gatson was arrested on Aug. 23, 2012 he wasn’t criminal charged until Jan 28, 2013.  Almost a year and a half since he allegedly committed his crime, and Gatson hasn’t even progressed past initial dispositions hearings.

JohnTV next reported on Gatson in 2013 when he was arrested again and was one of 60 busted in another ‘Operation Cross Country’ sting.

In that sting Gatson was charged (this time less than a month after his arrest) with felony possession of a firearm.

Gatson’s preliminary hearing in that case was set for tomorrow (probably not gonna happen).

This morning JohnTV learned of Gatson’s arrest late last night for child sex trafficking.

No other details have been released regarding this arrest and no new charges could be found online (meaning he must have been arrested as part of an active investigation and not an existing warrant).

JohnTV will continue to follow this case as it develops.

Gatson’s Criminal Timeline:

  1. At only 17-years old Gatson was arrested and charged with robbery with an imitation firearm, assault while masked or in disguise and concealing stolen property.Charges were reduced on two of the charges and Gatson was given a deferred sentence. That deferred sentence moved for revocation – that revocation hearing is still active.
  2. At 19-years old Gatson was arrested and charged with two felony counts of making a false declaration of ownership to a pawnbroker.Gatson received a 5-year suspended sentence. That sentence is now under a revocation hearing.
  3. At 22-years old Gatson was arrested by the FBI in ‘Operation Cross Country’ and charged with aiding and abetting prostitution. That case is still active.
  4. Just four months later and Gatson was arrested again and this time charged with felony possession of a firearm, transporting a loaded firearm, and driving while license is suspended. That case is still active.
  5. In July of last year Gatson was arrested and then charged with possession of a firearm in another ‘Operation Cross Country.’That case is still active.

OKC felon pimp busted AGAIN and this time for child sex trafficking

1/27/2014 – OKC, OK — A local man who was arrested in two previous nationwide prostitution and human trafficking stings has been arrested again in Oklahoma City; this time he’s accused of child sex trafficking.

JohnTV was the first to report on Gatson’s latest arrest last Wednesday (1/23/2014 story removed and combined with this update).

Details are few, but what is known is that Gatson, 23, along with two females were taken into custody around 8 p.m. at the Conoco gas station near 122 and N. MacArthur Blvd. in NW OKC.

Sylvia C. (either Cortene or Collene) Williams, 33, was arrested on complaints of illegal tag display, possession of marijuana and possession of CDS with a prescription.

Williams has most recently given a deferred sentence in Oklahoma County for felony hot check charges in 2010. There also appears to be a current warrant for Williams’ arrest in Comanche County for a 2003 misdemeanor bogus check charge.

Gatson was booked into the Oklahoma County Jail on a felony complaint of human trafficking (involving a minor).

According to police records, arresting officers booked into evidence; Xanax, marijuana, and a Samsung cell phone.

Also taken into custody was a 17-year-old juvenile female (presumably the trafficking victim).

The juvenile was reportedly taken to the Oklahoma County Juvenile Shelter on a ‘pick up order.’ The juvenile is also being held on a criminal complaint of possession of marijuana (found on her at the time of her arrest)

According to court records, members of the Oklahoma City Vice Unit were following up on a tip regarding the location the 17-year-old; who was also listed in NCIC as a ‘sex trafficking victim’ out of Tulsa.

The tipster informed authorities that Gatson was at an Oklahoma City residence with the juvenile.

Undercover officers setup surveillance on the residence and directed uniformed officers to make a ‘knock and talk’ to try and determine if indeed the juvenile was present.

The uniformed officers made contact at the residence with a female who looked like the teen victim, but she gave a different name.

Undercover vice officers continued their surveillance and noted the coming and going of other vehicles and individuals.

At some point officers saw Gatson leave the residence with Williams and the teen and directed a patrol car to pull Williams’ vehicle over at the Conoco where they were then taken into custody.

Police noted that Gatson was in possession of a cell phone that contained messages consistent with prostitution activities.

Williams is currently being held in the Oklahoma County Jail with a hold for Oklahoma City.

Gatson’s bond has been set at $250,000.

This is not Gatson’s first run-in with the law and allegations of prostitution.

According to a report by KWTV News9, Gatson was arrested just two weeks ago on another prostitution related complaint. Gatson was also arrested in 2012 and again in 2013 during annual national prostitution and human trafficking stings, led by the FBI and dubbed ‘Operation Cross Country.’ (article for 2012 sting. Article from 2013 sting)

In Gatson’s 2012 arrest he was subsequently charged with misdemeanor aiding and abetting prostitution.

The 2013 arrest earned Gatson a felony charge of possession of a firearm.

JohnTV will continue to follow this case.

Gatson’s Criminal Timeline:

  1. At only 17-years old Gatson was arrested and charged with robbery with an imitation firearm, assault while masked or in disguise and concealing stolen property. Charges were reduced on two of the charges and Gatson was given a deferred sentence. That deferred sentence moved for revocation – that revocation hearing is still active.
  2. At 19-years old Gatson was arrested and charged with two felony counts of making a false declaration of ownership to a pawnbroker. Gatson received a 5-year suspended sentence.

OBNDD to speak at seminar in Woodward regarding human trafficking

1/29/2014 – Woodward, OK — The Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs (human trafficking division) is set to participate in a seminar Thursday for students and residents in the Woodward area.

Human trafficking is a problem not unique to Oklahoma – but education and awareness are key to recognizing the signs and knowing how to properly react to a potential danger.

According to the OBNDD, human trafficking is defined by investigators as;  the exploitation by force, fraud, fear or coercion of vulnerable people for the purpose of forced labor, domestic servitude or commercial sexual exploitation.

Mike Snowden, the OBNDD agent in charge of their human trafficking division will be the main speaker Thursday, Jan 30 at the Woodward High School.

This awareness event is sponsored by the Northwestern Oklahoma State University, Woodward Public Schools, High Plains Technology Center and the American Association of University Women.

The public event is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. in the school auditorium.

Snowden will address junior high and high school students early in the day – focusing on the importance of self-worth, self-esteem, staying in school and good decision making.

The evening seminar will be directed more specifically to human trafficking and organizers caution that some of the information discussed may not be suitable for children.

The goal of the seminar is to inform and educate the public on the facts and myths of human trafficking as well as how to recognize the signs and help identify those at risk.

For more information on the seminar  please contact Dr. Deena Fisher, Dean of the Northwestern-Woodward campus, at (580)-254-2501.

January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month.

FAQ what is a John

On Jan. 29, 2014 YouTube user ‘Jason Rodriguez’ posted the following question while viewing the JohnTV video ‘JohnTV Overview of Prostitution and Human Trafficking in Oklahoma City .’

Question: “What is a ‘John’?”

Answer: (1/30/2014 by Brian Bates) I don’t have any historical evidence, just my opinion; but I believe the term ‘John’ has its origin in one of the two most commonly accepted theories.

  1. The term ‘John’ is just a shortened form of the label ‘John Doe’ – or an unidentified or anonymous male.
  2. The term ‘John Thomas’ was once used as British slang for a man’s penis. Coined in the novel, Lady Chatterley’s Lover (published 1928). ‘John’ in this case would just be a shortened form of John Thomas and was most likely used in conversation to simply refer to the male customer of a prostitute as ‘a penis’ because his name was unknown.

Below are video examples of some of JohnTV’s favorite ‘Johns.’

The Super Bowl human trafficking myth is in full effect

$

1/31/2014 - There is a dark cloud billowing over the festivities of the 2014 Super Bowl to be held this Sunday in the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey and that storm is fueled by the cries of anti-trafficking groups and a media thirsty to regurgitate their gloomy and often unsubstantiated predictions.

Yes, you read that right, JohnTV and I, the Video Vigilante, are actually casting doubt on those we often fight side-by-side with in our goal to positively impact street level prostitution and sex-trafficking. Why? Because I feel the tactic of fear mongering in the absence of evidence hurts the effort to raise awareness and move the social conscious.

For the last week the media has been abuzz with headlines touting, “The Ugly Truth Behind The Super Bowl And Sex Trafficking,” “Super Bowl Is Largest Weekend in US Prostitution, Advocates Say ,” “New Jersey braces for influx of sex traffickers with Super Bowl fans“ and “Super Bowl 2014: Biggest Night of the Year For Sex Trafficking.”

Super Bowl Trafficking Ad 01

Super Bowl propaganda ad

As widely reported, the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children claim approximately 10,000 women were involved in sex-trafficking during the 2010 Super Bowl in Miami.

In the halls of Congress, Rep. Christopher Smith (R-NJ) (co-chairman of the Congressional Caucus on Human Trafficking) proclaimed, “In less than a week, New Jersey will be hosting the Super Bowl, and along with welcoming enthusiastic fans, the state also is preparing for a likely influx of both domestic and international traffickers … We know from the past, any sports venue — especially the Super Bowl — acts as a sex-trafficking magnet…”

I am not asserting that prostitution and trafficking do not occur at these events, what I am questioning are headlines, statistics and predictions that rely on suspect, if not completely fabricated, origins; all in an effort to make a point that is often left blunt in the wake of reality.

Each of the articles linked above (and re-reported countless times online and in print) follow the same template. First, use an over the top headline. Second, follow the headline with quotes from self-proclaimed experts within the anti-human trafficking community and law enforcement. Third, highlight an arrest that took place conveniently around the event in question and proclaim it proof positive that hoards of human traffickers are in route to lay siege on the host city. Lastly, end with heart-wrenching tales of trafficking that rarely if ever have anything to do with the event demonized in the story.

The important element missing from virtually all of these articles are actual facts to substantiate the call to arms.

The “sporting events equals trafficking” phenomenon is not limited to the Super Bowl or even the United States. These same headlines have appeared in relation to (and always preceding) the Olympic games, World Series, World Cup and virtually every other majoring sporting event around the world. I say ‘always preceding’ because, while the stories proliferate prior to the sporting event in question, they never seem to prevail with accounts after the fact of trafficking thwarted and victims saved.

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott was famously quoted by numerous media outlets in 2011 as saying, “The Super Bowl is one of the biggest human trafficking events in the United States” and there is a “looming potential explosion of human trafficking around the Super Bowl.”

Of course, as with most of these annual predictions, no specific evidence is offered as a foundation for such assertions and rarely does a journalist question the validity of the propaganda.

In a Newsweek article they attempt to provide some foundation with the following; “Past Super Bowls have borne this out. In the wake of 2009’s game in Tampa, Florida’s Department of Children and Families took in 24 children who’d been trafficked to the city for sex work.” However, other news outlets reported that Tampa police claim to have only made 11 prostitution arrests the week of the 2009 Super Bowl and none were minors or linked to trafficking. In 2010 the Super Bowl was held in Miami and police there told news outlets that they only made 14 prostitution arrests that week and they didn’t consider that to be a high number compared to any other week in their city.

The 2010 Winter Olympics, held in Vancouver, faced the same sex trafficking fear mongering. In response, British Columbia funded a study which concluded that “sex trafficking and mega-events are not linked.” In support of that finding, police saw no measurable rise in the incidents of prostitution or trafficking.

In 2006 many activist groups proclaimed that up to 40,000 prostitutes (both willing and forced) would be descending upon World Cup in Germany. The European group International Organization for Migration (IOM) did a conclusive study and found the estimations were “unfounded and unrealistic.”

As reported by media outlets, in 2010 Ernie Allen, director for The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, claimed he was misquoted when predicting 10,000 prostitutes would show up in Miami for Super Bowl XLIV. Allen reportedly said the Super Bowl likely doesn’t attract more sex traffickers than any other large event. What’s more, he also conceded there is no way to quantify the problem.

I’m not alone in my skepticism; Danny Pollard of Dallas, Texas wrote on this topic for Suite101, and the Global Alliance Against Traffic in Women issued a briefing paper suggesting there is no increase in trafficking of women forced into prostitution in connection with large sporting events. The GAAT went a step further when they stated, “Most efforts to fight human trafficking are founded on hearsay rather than objective research, making failure a certainty.”

In 2011 the GAAT released the results of a study they entitled, “What’s the Cost of a Rumour? A guide to sorting out the myths and the facts about sporting events and trafficking.”

That is not to say that prostitution and the sexual trafficking of others, let alone children, is not a real and tragic reality, whether it be one or one hundred thousand. To the contrary, it is the opinion of JohnTV and myself that one only serves to bolster one’s detractors when they realize you’ve armed yourself with fable and hyperbole.

‘Johns’ advised how to exploit/avoid impound ordinance after prostitution sting

$

2/4/2014 – OKC, OK — A law meant to place additional penalties on arrested ‘Johns’ is being subverted with the direct help of Oklahoma City Police officers.

In 2011 Oklahoma City Police Chief Bill Citty  proposed a revision to current municipal code to allow police to seize any vehicle used in the furtherance of the crime of prostitution (link to original story posted 10/19/2011).

In his proposal Citty stated, “…The proposed ordinance will assist the police department in enforcing the state prostitution laws and municipal prostitution ordinances, while also permitting the police department to assist the communities which currently have a systemic prostitution issue.”

The prostitution vehicle impound ordinance was added to an existing nuisance ordinance that allowed police to seize vehicles used in the commission of a drive-by shooting or eluding. The ordinance means that a vehicle can be seized for 90-days and that the vehicle’s owner must pay a maximum fee of $1,900, plus a towing charge to get their vehicle back.

The ordinance was endorsed by Oklahoma City City Manger James Couch and approved unanimously by the Oklahoma City Council in Oct. of 2011 (see ordinance at the bottom of this article).

Since that time the ordinance has been used many times against alleged ‘Johns,’ prostitutes and pimps.

A vehicle used by local prostitutes impounded by Oklahoma City Police.

A vehicle used by local prostitutes impounded by Oklahoma City Police.

However, it has come to JohnTV’s attention that some ‘Johns’ are avoiding the $1,900 impound fee and retrieving their vehicle within a day or two of its impoundment – and all at the suggestion of members of the Oklahoma City Police Department – who educate the ‘Johns’ on a loophole in the law.

The current interpretation of the ordinance is that if the vehicle is not titled in the name of the individual arrested, then the vehicle can be immediately retrieved from the city.

JohnTV has learned that when some ‘Johns’ contact the Oklahoma City Police Department they are being told they can simply add someone to their vehicle’s title and that that person can come claim the vehicle and avoid the prolonged impound and fees.

JohnTV knows for a fact this is occurring and one of those telephone conversations was recently captured on an audio recording.

In that case, a ‘John,’ who was arrested in late 2013, was instructed on how to subvert the intent of the law and was able to legally retrieve his vehicle almost immediately. So shocked was the ‘John’ – and fearful of being setup by police – he called the police department back and recorded the conversation.

Fearful of retribution against the ‘John,’ JohnTV is not going to publish the audio tape nor identify the ‘John’ by name.

The ‘John’s’ criminal case has since been settled and he received a deferred sentence and fine.

JohnTV’s Brian Bates was interviewed by the Oklahoma Gazette in 2011 and publicly opposed the new ordinance.

In that article Bates is quoted as stating, “In the larger scope of things, I’m not behind it and I don’t support it, simply because it isn’t needed. … [the Johns] already know they’re risking their marriage, their job, their finances, their reputation. All of these things take a higher priority over [their] ’98 Taurus. They don’t care about their car. … if [the prostitutes] happen to own a car, it’s probably the only possession they have, and you’re going to take that away from her because you think that’s going to make her not prostitute anymore?”

As for why Oklahoma City Police officers would be aiding ‘Johns’ in avoiding a punishment suggested by their own Chief is unknown to JohnTV.

One can only speculate that either some members of the Oklahoma Police Department have a soft spot for ‘Johns’ or (and much more probable) they simply dislike and have so little respect for Chief Citty they advise ‘Johns’ simply out of spite.

Speaking of OCPD Chief Bill Citty – This is what an appellant court judge had to say about then patrol officer [William] Bill Citty regarding a 1979 arrest of a black female he and his partner made….

Crushed were the fundamental rights of a single protesting citizen beneath the grinding boot heel of uniformed government agents with all the cold callousness of an imperial executioner.

Apparently, in Oklahoma City, not only are deplorable (and most likely racially motivated) actions against Oklahoma Citizens tolerated, but they are rewarded by elevating you to the highest level of the Oklahoma City Police Department.

It is also alleged that Citty’s step-daughter committed the crime of obstruction in recent years when she sent a text message warning a classmate to the fact police were in route to serve a search warrant on his home – this after Citty’s step-daughter was found to be in possession of a fake ID that was allegedly made at the classmate’s residence.

Citty’s step-daughter was never charged with a crime – even though Oklahoma City Police officers have been criminally prosecuted for similar actions (link to court case and conviction).

Below is a news story that aired on FOX25 right after the new impound ordinance went into effect.

Tulsa pimp, Damien Wardell, charged federally with child sex-trafficking

2/6/2014 – Tulsa, OK — A federal grand jury in Tulsa this week charged a local felon with the child-sex-trafficking of a 16-year old female.

JohnTV previously reported on the arrest of local scumbag Damien Dinchie Wardell back in December of last year.

As a result of the arrest, Wardell was charged in Tulsa County with felony human trafficking, unlawful possession of CDS and five counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Wardell was held in the Tulsa County Jail on a $206,000 bond.

Wardell listed a home address in the 8000 block of E. Newton Ct. in Tulsa.

Yesterday all seven criminal charges were dropped in lieu of a two count federal indictment announced the same day.

Wardell, aka 'Fray Fray' Mugshot

Wardell, aka ‘Fray Fray’ Mugshot

Wardell, 39, is now charged federally with one count of sex trafficking a child (18 U.S.C. § 1591) and one count of sex trafficking by force, fraud and coercion (18 U.S.C. § 1591).

According to the original police report, dated Nov. 22, 2013, Wardell – who is known on the streets as ‘Fray Fray’ – was found by Tulsa police to be in the company of four juvenile females (ages; R.M. 16, J.H. 17, C.M. 15 and I.B. 17) that all had runaway warrants and an unidentified juvenile male.

Wardell and the juveniles were discovered by police after receiving a tip directing them to room #246 at the Best Inn Suites in the 7400 block of E. Admiral Pl. – the room was in Wardell’s name.

Investigators allege that when they interviewed the juvenile females, they learned that at least three of them were utilizing the room for acts of prostitution that they solicited via Backpage.com.

When police interviewed Wardell, it is alleged that he admitted that he knew at least one of the juveniles (R.M.) was actively prostituting and that he provided all four juveniles with marijuana.

In the grand jury indictment it is alleged that Wardell “From on or about Nov. 14, 2013, through on or about Nov. 22, 2013 … knowingly recruited, harbored, enticed, and maintained R.M. … knowing and in reckless disregard of the fact that R.M. would be caused to engage in commercial sex acts and had not yet attained the age of 18 year.”

Wardell is currently on probation from a March 2013 conviction for domestic assault and battery (2nd offense). In that case, Wardell reportedly attacked his girlfriend at his home near Pine and North Lewis – strangling her with his hands until she started to lose consciousness. When police arrived, Wardell barricaded himself inside the residence for over two-hours before surrendering. That sentence is now under revocation proceedings.

Wardell also has a 1996 armed robbery conviction and a 2010 assault and battery conviction in the presence of a minor.

No additional information has been released at the time of this publication.

JohnTV will continue to follow this case.

Below are video examples of child/juvenile trafficking in Oklahoma, as shot by JohnTV’s Brian Bates.

Tougher laws against human trafficking proposed in Oklahoma

2/6/2013 – Oklahoma — Oklahoma lawmakers have introduced about a dozen new bills that they claim help to strengthen state laws regarding human trafficking.

Drafted by the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs, these various proposed laws address both the needs of victims and the desire to aid in the prosecution of offenders.

Though the term ‘Human Trafficking’ conjures up different images for different people, under federal and state laws, the crime of Human Trafficking is most often the result of any person(s) who; knowingly recruits, transports, transfers, harbors or receives another person, by way of threat, coercion, abduction, fraud, deceit, deception or abuse of power, for the purpose of prostitution, pornography, sexual exploitation, forced labor, involuntary servitude, debt bondage, or slavery (see chart below).

Human Trafficking as defined by a chart on the U.S. Dept. of State website.

Human Trafficking as defined by a chart on the U.S. Dept. of State website.

If just one condition from each category above is met, the result is human trafficking. For adults, victim consent is irrelevant if one of the above listed ‘means’ is utilized. For children, consent is irrelevant with or without the ‘means’ category.

Bills introduced by Sen. Brian Crain, R-Tulsa, Sen. Nathan Dahm, R-Broken Arrow and Sen. Dan Newberry, R-Tulsa would establish a 12-year statute of limitations for human trafficking.

Bills offered by Crain, Newberry and Rep. Sally Kern, R-Oklahoma City would require human traffickers to serve 85 percent of their prison sentences. Bills from Newberry, Crain and Rep. Pam Peterson, R-Tulsa would mandate the sex-offender registration.

Arrested Zipties

An young Oklahoma City woman arrested for prostitution.

Other bills would change the term ‘child’ to ‘minor’ and make the crime of child prostitution applicable to anyone under the age 18, instead of 16 (Oklahoma’s age of consent).

OBNDD spokesman Mark Woodward says they and lawmakers looked to areas of the country like Nevada for models of legislation that seem to have the biggest positive impact.

Two additional bills have been introduced in 2014 that act as ‘shell bills’  and seek to create the ‘Human Trafficking Act of 2014′ and contain no specific language but may be used to toughen existing human trafficking laws.

Rep. Anastasia Pittman, D-Oklahoma City, said the act will expunge the criminal records of trafficking victims.

Last year State Rep. Sally Kern authored HB1058 which allowed for the expungement and sealing of prostitution criminal records of individuals who are deemed by the courts as victims of human trafficking.

JohnTV expressed several concerns over many of the details left out of HB1058; like who would pay the often high court and attorney fees associated with expungement and a lack of a defined process for determining who would be recognized as a victim – among others.

Check back as JohnTV will be updating this story as additional information is obtained.

Cleveland County; Craigslist child molester serves only 75-weeks in prison for abusing autistic 6yr old

2/6/2014 – Cleveland County, OK — Probably the second most despicable pile of human flesh to reside in Norman, Oklahoma has been released from prison after only serving 75-weeks for the unthinkable molestation of a six-year-old autistic boy after responding to a Craiglist solicitation for sex from the boy’s own father.

The honor of the first most despicable pile of human flesh in Norman is reserved for Cleveland County District Attorney Greg Mashburn – who allowed the child molester to plead to a sentence of only 2 years (not to mention an equally lax plea deal for the young victim’s father).

JohnTV first reported on then 27-year-old Teddy Dean Davis back in July of 2011 when he and the victim’s absolutely disgusting excuse for a dad, Jonathan Mark Smith, 38, were criminally charged with multiple felonies stemming from the Jan. 2011 rape and molestation.

Davis and Smith were also featured locally in a news story regarding their arrest on KWTV News 9.

According to court records and confidential sources, Smith (apparently home and bored while his wife worked) placed an online ad on Craigslist seeking homosexual sex for himself.

Davis replied and the two struck up a sexually explicit conversation that quickly turned to Smith’s defenseless six-year-old autistic son.

Left: Johnathan Smith. Right: Teddy Davis

Left: Johnathan Smith. Right: Teddy Davis

It is believed that at some point Smith may have sent Davis a picture of the child. Regardless, Davis eventually asked Smith if he could come over to Smith’s Moore home and fondle Smith’s young boy – to which Smith apparently agreed.

To add insult to injury, it is also alleged that Smith masturbated in the same room while Davis fondled/molested/raped, Smith’s own son.

Sources tell JohnTV that the victim’s mother learned of the abuse and contacted authorities.

Davis was subsequently charged with felony lewd molestation of a child.

Smith was charged with felony lewd molestation and enabling sexual abuse of a child.

On April 4, of 2012 Davis pleaded guilty, in front of Cleveland County Judge Tracy Schumacher, and in an arranged plea deal was sentenced to only two years in prison, followed by eight years of probation. To add insult to injustice, Davis was ordered to only pay $50 into the Victim’s Compensation Fund.

Additionally, court records show that prosecutors agreed to ignore Davis’ extensive prior criminal record when agreeing to his slap on the wrist plea. (Dec. 2008 news report regarding prior criminal acts by Davis)

Smith pleaded guilty on July of 2013 and was only sentenced to five years in prison, followed by probation.

Just this week JohnTV received a VINE notification that Davis was being released from prison on probation after serving only 75-weeks for molesting the autistic youth.

Court records indicate that Davis is to comply with “special supervision conditions for sex offenders”, but at last check (2/7/2014), Davis’ name does not appear when conducting a search of the Oklahoma sexual offender online database.

No reason has ever been given as to why Davis and Smith were given such light sentences for such a horrific crime.

JohnTV asks that Cleveland County voters remember DA Greg Mashburn‘s apparent soft spot for child sex offenders at re-election time.

2/10/2014 – Odessa, TX — A Oklahoma woman has been arrested in Texas for assaulting a police officer that had detained her after it was suspected she was engaging in prostitution at an Odessa restaurant.

According to published and police records, 20-year-old Megan Ashli McKee, of the 14300 block of N. Penn Ave. in Oklahoma City, and another woman were allegedly overheard by an off-duty Odessa police officer soliciting customers at the Twin Peaks restaurant at 5001 E. 42nd in Odessa, Texas.

Around 10:30 p.m. the off-duty officer claims he heard McKee mention an advertisement she had placed on Backpage.com as she was going from table-to-table.

The officer used his Internet enabled cell phone to locate the advertisement and then reportedly called for uniformed officers to assist as he placed McKee under arrest for public intoxication.

Officer Paul Hurley responded to the call and as he was reportedly placing McKee into his patrol car she kicked the door, causing it to swing back and strike Hurley – resulting in the assault complaint.

The officer did not require medical treatment.

A local name inquiry for McKee turned up a Nov. 2013 misdemeanor charge  and active arrest warrant in Comanche County for driving with a suspended license.

Also listed is a 2014 paternity case out of Tulsa County where a Megan Ashli-Renee McKee lost custody of her young child to the paternal father and was ordered to pay child support.
