11/23/2014 – OKC, OK — More details are released regarding “Mother & Daughter” prostitution arrest from earlier this month – it appears the hooking duo was actually a trio, engaged in some questionable physical contact with the arresting officer and had all their cash seized by police.

As originally reported by JohnTV earlier this month, three women from Wichita were arrested in Oklahoma City after an undercover officer responded to an online prostitution ad proclaiming, “Last Day!! Last Chance! Mother and Adult Daughter!! Call Now!!!”

At the time of their arrest, all we really knew were the women’s name, ages, and the fact they were booked into jail on felony and misdemeanor prostitution complaints.

The three women arrested were identified as;

1. Barbara Wingate, DOB 4/21/1952 (62), White female, reportedly resides in the 100 block of S. Anna Dr. in Wichita, KS.
2. Misty Rhymes, DOB 8/5/1977 (37), White female, reportedly resides in the 200 block of N. Tracy St. in Wichita, KS.
3. Angie Estrada, DOB 5/11/1990 (24), Hispanic female, reportedly resides in the 1800 block of S. Parkwood Ln, Wichita, KS.

According to court records (see bottom of this article), on Nov. 10 members of the Oklahoma City Police Department’s Vice Unit and agents with the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs (Human Trafficking Unit) were “targeting escort services advertised on the Internet.”

An undercover agent with the OBNDD responded to an adult ad on Backpage.com (see ad below) “featuring a mother and daughter combo.” The woman the undercover agent spoke to offered herself and two other women for sex, with the following stipulation… All three for only $250 and just one shot (meaning he was only allowed to ejaculate once for that price). The undercover agent agreed to the deal and was instructed to meet the women at their room — Room #217 at the Quality Inn & Suites near I-40 and S. Meridian Ave.

When the undercover agent arrived he gave one of the three women $260 and was told to “get comfortable.” (This is cop and hooker talk for “get naked so we can tell you are not wearing a wire, badge, gun, etc.”)

This is where the affidavit gets a little disturbing…. Even though a price has already been quoted, cash paid and the officer is getting naked, the court record states that “while [the undercover agent] got undressed, all three females touched his genitals.” (just another day at the office for law enforcement)

The affidavit doesn’t say how long the genital touching, tugging, groping (whatever) was allowed to go on, but at some point (one minute, twenty minutes, who really knows) other officers entered the room and placed the three women under arrest.

And, as is sadly often the case, the arrest of the three women quickly became a money grab for law enforcement…..

According to one of the arresting officer’s own notes; “While retrieving identification for Estrada, I noticed a large amount of cash in her wallet. The amount totaled $462. Estrada stated she was unemployed. The money was seized because it was believed to be the proceeds from prostitution. While retrieving identification from Wingate, I noticed a large amount of cash in her wallet and purse. The amount totaled $1,106. Wingate stated she was unemployed. The money was seized because it was believed to be proceeds from prostitution. While retrieving identification for Rhymes, I noticed a large amount of cash in her wallet. The amount totaled $760. Rhymes advised that she was employed as a home healthcare provider. The money was seized because it was believed to be proceeds from prostitution.”

Well, a three-way hand job and $2,328 in cash… Puts a whole new perspective on “To Protect and Serve.”

Yeah, yeah…. we know, we’ve heard it all before… Law enforcement will claim their (often married with children) undercover agents have to get naked and grope the women they themselves often publicly identify as victims or encourage these same victims to touch them all in the name of “making a case.” Cases that JohnTV routinely show end in $100 fines and a few months of probation. Can law enforcement really look the public in the eye and say molesting citizens or encouraging them to molest officers is worth a penalty that is often less than a jaywalking ticket?

Here is what OCPD had to say in a 2012 FOX25 interview about claims of crossing the line when making prostitution arrests…

“On nearly every case the suspect typically claims the officer either went too far or enticed them into saying or doing things they would have not have normally done. So, there is always typically an allegation of misconduct” — Capt. Dexter Nelson OCPD

Read that quote a few times and then ask yourself…… Why is Captain Nelson boasting about this claim instead of expressing concern that apparently hundreds of women a year are claiming members of Oklahoma law enforcement are engaging in sexual misconduct?

Law enforcement will also publicly justify asset forfeiture (that’s fancy gov’t talk for when we steal your shit its perfectly legal) because, well, because the law says they can.

But here’s what a police chief in another city had to say about asset forfeiture during a City of Columbia Citizens Police Review Board meeting…

All three women were eventually booked into the Oklahoma County Jail on felony computer and misdemeanor prostitution complaints.

On Nov. 19 formal misdemeanor criminal charges for engaging in an act of lewdness were filed in Oklahoma County against all three.

JohnTV found it odd that the felony computer crimes complaint was not filed against any of the three when that charge is used in most similar cases.

A confidential source within the DA’s office tells JohnTV that most likely they didn’t file the felony charge because all three women live out of state and Oklahoma doesn’t want to incur the fees for transporting them back to our state – Oklahoma doesn’t extradite on misdemeanor charges. So, once again, it’s all about the money.

12/1/2014 – ABC affiliate KSWO out of Lawton recently aired a feature story on Oklahoma Human Sex Trafficking that spotlighted JohnTV and our own Video Vigilante Brian Bates.

Last week KSWO reporter Silvia Corkill aired a 7News Special Report entitled, ‘Oklahoma’s Secret Slaves‘ about human sex trafficking in our state.

The eight minute story focused on defining human sex trafficking within our state and exactly how our young people are vulnerable to falling victim to it.

Corkill utilized JohnTV video clips, in person interviews with Bates and several interviews with the heads of the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Human Trafficking Unit.

12/1/2014 – OKC, OK — An Oklahoma City man arrested in June by the FBI for the alleged sex trafficking of a teen girl in the metro has been released from jail on home confinement — and JohnTV wonders out loud as to why…

JohnTV was the first to report on 26-year-old Kyan (kylan/Kyland) Letrail Gimore’s arrest during this year’s ‘Operation Cross Country‘ – a yearly national sting conducted by the FBI, working in cooperation with local authorities, targeting sex traffickers, pimps, panderers, ‘Johns’ and victims.

According to court records, Gilmore was arrested on June 19 of this year after he drove a 17-year-old female to the Best Western Plus Saddleback Inn to meet with whom he thought was a ‘John’ who was going to pay to have sex with the teen.

The young girl, identified in court papers only as “B.D.”, reportedly offered the undercover officer specific sexual services in exchange for $150.

Gilmore was transported to the Oklahoma County Jail, where he remained, unable to make a $100,000 bond.

Thanks to Oklahoma County Judge Ray Elliot and a DA’s office that has a history of being overly kind to human traffickers, Gilmore no longer has to worry about coming up with bond.

It seems that just a couple of days before Thanksgiving Gilmore was supposed to appear for his preliminary hearing. That didn’t happen, but what did shows that once again the Oklahoma justice system doesn’t give a rat’s ass about our daughters and obviously has adopted a hug-a-thug mentality.

According to court records, Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater’s office agreed to release Gilmore from jail on a ‘conditional bond.’ What are the conditions of this alleged sex trafficker of teenage girls? Well, for now, he doesn’t have to spend anymore time behind bars or put up or risk any bond money. But, he does have to stay home and where a GPS monitor. Gilmore is not to have any contact with his victim, he’s not to be on the Internet and he has to submit to random drug tests. So, basically he’s been ordered to go home, watch TV and subtle ways to intimidate his teenage victim into not testifying against him.

And, before you start thinking the DA’s office is going to be keeping a close eye on Gilmore while he’s out of jail and possibly living in a home near you…. You should probably know that when Gilmore was allegedly operating as a human sex trafficker, he was already supposedly being monitored by Oklahoma County DA David Prater’s office.

That’s right, in Sept. of 2013 Gilmore was convicted of domestic assault and battery and sentenced to a year of probation that was to be supervised by the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s office.

While ‘supervised probation’ in the federal court system (or even D.O.C.) is often quite stringent and subject to surprise inspections, ‘supervision’ by the Oklahoma County DA’s office is in name only. You simply write the DA’s office a check for $40 a month and the only time you’re going to hear from DA Prater’s office is if your check is late or bounces.

In fact, while also on ‘supervised probation,’ Gilmore was arrested in Feb. and is currently charged, along with two co-defendants, with drug trafficking related crimes.

Gilmore posted $11,000 bond in March and was released – on the condition he not commit additional crimes (insert snicker here) – while he awaited trial for being a drug dealer.

It was while on his initial supervised probation and out on bond for the separate drug trafficking crimes that Gilmore was caught selling a 17-year-old for sex.

So, naturally with a stellar track record like that, Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater’s office felt Gilmore was more than deserving of yet another break — and all at the blessing of Oklahoma County Judge Ray Elliot.

Gilmore is next set to appear on Jan. 12, 2015 for revocation on his assault and battery conviction and twice on Jan. 20, 2015 for a preliminary hearing conference on his drug dealing charges and a preliminary hearing on his human trafficking charge.

As for where Gilmore will be residing while on house arrest is not quite clear to JohnTV. Court records show a home address in the 1000 block of NE 28th after Gilmore’s June arrest, but JohnTV has not yet been able to confirm this is where Gilmore will be staying.

12/2/2014 – Memphis, TN — An alleged Tennessee child sex trafficker calls 911 for help after the father of a 12-year-old girl attacks him with a baseball when he suspects he’s pimping his daughter.

According to published reports, Brian Jones, 33, called police Nov. 20, after he found himself locked in the back of a van and facing a severe beating by an extremely pissed off dad armed with a bat.

When police arrived the young girl told them that Jones was holding her against her will and that he had forced her to have sex with several older men in his apartment.

Jones reportedly has denied pimping the young girl, but reportedly told investigators that he did allow someone else to bring the girl to his apartment and that he was aware she was engaging in sex with men in one of the bedrooms.

The girl’s father said that he reported his daughter missing days before and that when he confronted Jones, Jones refused to let his daughter go and that’s when he attacked him with a bat and forced him into a van.

Jones was arrested and is being held in the Shelby County Jail on complaints of child rape and child sex trafficking. Jones’ bond has been set at $200,000.

Police have not yet arrested or criminally charged any of the men who allegedly had sex with the young victim.

It has been reported that the father only located his daughter after combing the area on foot and being advised by an apartment resident as to the location of his daughter.

12/2/2014 – OKC, OK — A former Oklahoma police officer and security guard has been criminally charged as a suspected serial rapist of at least two women who engaged in Internet prostitution.

JohnTV has twice now reported on the pathetic pile of human flesh that is Brett William Johnson; First, in Aug. after he was arrested in Oklahoma City for allegedly sexually assaulting an Internet prostitute at an apartment complex he was patrolling as a security guard. Then again in Sept., after more victims came forward claiming Johnson also used his badge to subdue and then rape them.

JohnTV decided to check court records to see if there had been any updates to Johnson’s case and found he has been formally criminally charged and additional details have been made available.

On Sept. 2 Johnson was charged in Oklahoma County Court with three counts of felony sexual battery, rape in the second degree, forcible oral sodomy and pointing a firearm at another.

Despite the serious nature of the charges against Johnson, his bond has only been set at $89,000 – or just $8,900 paid to a bondsman. Fortunately, Johnson apparently doesn’t have the financial means nor family support to make his current bond.

As previously reported, at the time of his arrest, Johnson was a reserve deputy with the Minco Police Department and worked at various apartment complexes throughout the Oklahoma City area as a security guard.

Johnson has since been relieved of duty from the city of Minco.

12/2/2014 – OKC, OK — Released court records provide more details on the Oklahoma City woman who pleaded guilty last Oct. to pimping and was only given a $50 fine and probation. Problem is, the details simply reinforce the idea that Oklahoma County’s sense of ‘justice’ does not reflect the will of the people.

Last month JohnTV reported on the guilty plea, and subsequent slap on the wrist, given to 26-year-old Michelle Reney Rice after she admitted to forcibly prostituting – along with her co-defendant Markus Markiee Shirley – another woman in the metro.

Rice and Shirley’s victim is not fully identified by name or age within court documents. However, investigators with the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs (Human Trafficking Unit) acknowledge they are familiar with the victim and that she had previously spent time at Beautiful Dream Society before leaving of her own accord.

Initial reports indicated that Rice and Shirley forcibly detained their victim, both participated in raping the woman and both conspired to prostitute her online and kept all her earnings.

Newly released court documents detail Rice and Shirley’s victim’s horrific ordeal and beg the questions… Why was this duo not charged with human trafficking, rape, kidnapping and other more serious crimes and why was Rice given such a light sentence?

You can read the entirety of the probable cause affidavit (PCA) submitted by an agent with the OBNDD posted below.

In short, the report makes it clear that Rice was the ‘Bottom Bitch’ of Shirley’s alleged prostitution and human trafficking endeavors and that many other women may be involved.

Repeatedly the PCA emphasizes that the victim was forced to prostitute by means of force, fear and coercion at the hands of Rice and Shirley (the elements of the crime necessary for a human trafficking charge). The victim also made it clear she was held against her will (kidnapping) and that Rice, Shirley and other unidentified females repeatedly raped the victim when she wasn’t being prostituted to ‘Johns.’

Investigators even detail that they were unable to get back in touch with the victim for over an hour because the victim was being raped at that time.

JohnTV cannot fathom why both Rice and Shirley were not charged with a litany of serious felonies that could and should have resulted in meaningful time behind bars.

Regardless, as pointed out in our previous article, Oklahoma law clearly states that Rice should have faced a mandatory minimum sentence of two years in prison and a maximum of 20-years for the crime she was charged with and pleaded guilty to (pandering). Not to mention a minimum fine of $1,000.

There is no valid reason that perpetrators of such vile criminal activity are being allowed to walk away with what amounts to a minuscule traffic or pedestrian violation. This sentence is further proof that despite what prosecutors and judges say, their actions prove they feel women involved in prostitution are ‘victims’ undeserving of justice.

Had Rice simply sold drugs to her victim, she would have most assuredly been sentenced to prison.

Below are the court records. Read them and you decide if Rice should have faced charges that more accurately reflected her crimes and a prison sentence to match.

12/3/2014 – Tulsa, OK — A Tulsa woman with a felony record and a recent prostitution conviction is apparently promoting herself online as a childcare provider.

JohnTV readers will probably recognize the name Sheila Irene Quinn. We first reported on Quinn back in Nov. of 2013 after she was arrested, along with 25 others, in a Stillwater prostitution sting dubbed ‘Operation Dragon Slayer.’ According to court records, Quinn placed an ad online for prostitution and then offered an undercover officer specific sexual services in exchange for $300.

We reported on Quinn again in Dec. of last year after she boldly and publicly predicted that the case against her would soon be thrown out because, “The only quote evdience [sic] they have on me is I had a condom in my purse!”

Well, as you can probably imagine, Quinn’s ability to predict the future is about as good as her ability to avoid the law.

In April of this year we reported on Quinn again. This time to update readers on Quinn’s guilty plea to the prostitution charges she claimed she was going to beat.

On April 8, 2014 Quinn appeared in a Payne County courtroom and pleaded guilty to soliciting prostitution. Quinn was sentenced to five-days in jail followed by a one year suspension, a $1,000 fine, court costs and 10-hours of community service.

Quinn’s complete criminal resume includes a felony record for numerous bogus check charges and even time spent in prison in 1996.

Apparently not one to learn her lesson, in Sept. the Payne County DA’s officer filed a motion to accelerate Quinn’s probationary sentence.

According to court records, Quinn failed to report to Oklahoma Court Services after her conviction. Quinn also failed to pay her fine and court costs. And lastly, Quinn failed to pay her court mandated monthly supervision fees. I guess they wouldn’t take her check!

Quinn’s next court appearance is set for Jan. 22, 2015. If found guilty, Quinn’s one-year probation could be accelerated to incarceration.

Most recently Quinn, along with her husband, young daughter and 17-year-old son, were evicted from public housing.

Quinn and her husband were also recently ordered to appear in court regarding their inability to ensure that their teenage son attended public school.

Naturally the first thing that pops into a parent’s mind after reading all this is, “I bet Sheila would make for a really good childcare provider for my kids.”

Well, apparently that’s what Quinn thinks because she recently posted this to her Facebook page…

Yikes! And if you weren’t already afraid enough for any kids that might be placed in her care, just take a look at how Quinn has promoted herself online in the past as an Internet prostitute. I bet you can’t wait to see how she poses the kids for ‘picture day’ at her home daycare…..

12/7/2014 – Coalgate, OK (by Brian Bates) — I, along with many others, lost a good friend Friday.

Yvonne Alene Adcock was someone I met while documenting street prostitution on S. Robinson Ave. in south Oklahoma City.

I first met Yvonne in 2001. She was very much a street savvy woman who did her best to put up an emotionless front to hide her pain.

Yvonne never knew the love of a mother. You see, her mother was her first pimp and she sold Yvonne’s virginity in 1979, at the age of 12, to a truck driver.

The abuse continued for several years until Yvonne ran away. But she didn’t run far. She had been numbing the pain of being a child prostitute by using every manner of drug she could find.

She spent most of her life being rejected by those who should have loved her unconditionally and being used by men who wanted nothing more than 10 minutes in the back seat of their car.

Against all odds she pulled herself off the streets and away from addiction around 2004. She successfully graduated from both business school and beauty college soon thereafter.

Unable to find anyone that would employ a former drug addict, prostitute who spent time in prison, she started her own salon – A Brand New You.

But she was unprepared for the additional burdens of a ‘straight life’ and she soon lost it all.

She disappeared for a time. But reemerged a stronger and more determined woman.

She reunited with the daughter she had long ago placed for adoption with a family friend. Yvonne married and settled down to a simpler life in Coalgate, Oklahoma.

Yvonne quickly became the face of human trafficking in Oklahoma. And while under the wing of the Salvation Army she spoke to audiences both large and small.

She shared her story in hope it would educate and empower those who would listen. And listen they did….

Yvonne was contacted almost daily by perfect strangers from around the world. And I call them “perfect” because that’s exactly how she saw everyone despite their flaws.

Yvonne’s past though, and the stories of abuse others shared, continued to burden her… With the news of newly discovered brain tumors it simply became too much.

Yvonne made the decision to end her life the way she lived it… on her own terms.

Yvonne’s biggest fear was that she would “die a nothing.”

I truly hope as she left this Earth she was comforted with the fact she was the opposite of a nothing.

Yvonne refused to be defined as a victim. She was a fighter.

Yvonne, you did not die a nothing… You lived, despite a life of obstacles, abuse and abandonment. And, through it all you never lost your faith nor diminished your compassion for others in need.

You did not die a nothing…. You gave hope to so many with your unapologetic testimony.

You did not die a nothing…. Your wit and wisdom and sass made you an unforgettable friend to everyone you met.

Yvonne, you did not die a nothing.

Yvonne had become very close to volunteers and staff of No Boundaries International. In fact, one of NBI’s staff members was with Yvonne just hours before she died.

NBI hosted an informal evening of prayer and remembrance in Yvonne’s honor on Dec. 8. (covered by FOX25 News).

12/8/2014 – OKC, OK — An Oklahoma City man accused of the sex trafficking of a local teenager is on the run after prosecutors and judge decide to drop his bond and place him on house arrest – this even though he had already broken the terms of all of his prior probations.

Kyan (Kylan/Kyland) Letrail Gilmore, 26, was arrested during this past summer’s ‘Operation Cross Country‘ – a yearly national sting conducted by the FBI, working in cooperation with local authorities, targeting sex traffickers, pimps, panderers, ‘Johns’ and victims.

According to court records, Gilmore drove a 17-year-old female to an Oklahoma City motel to meet with a man he thought was going to pay to have sex with the teen. In reality, the John was undercover law enforcement.

The teen was taken into protective custody after she agreed to exchange $150 for specific sexual services.

Gilmore was arrested and booked into the Oklahoma County Jail on a $100,000 bond.

On June 6, Gilmore was formerly charged in Oklahoma County with human trafficking.

It is important to note that when Gilmore was arrested and charged with human trafficking, he was already on probation for a 2013 conviction for domestic abuse. That conviction came with the stipulation that Gilmore was supposed to be supervised by Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater’s office.

However, while on supervised probation for beating up a woman, Gilmore was arrested and criminally charged this past February for drug trafficking related crimes (along with two other co-defendants).

Despite breaking the terms of his assault probation Gilmore was allowed to post an $11,000 bond and walk out of jail while he awaited trial for being a drug trafficker.

Naturally Gilmore’s drug trafficking bond came with the condition he was not to break any laws while released. And, naturally, Gilmore could care less about the rules and while on probation for one conviction and out on bond for a drug trafficking charge, Gilmore decided to engage in the human sex trafficking of a local teenage girl.

I know what you’re thinking, “well, at least they picked Gilmore up on the human trafficking charge so he’s off the streets.”

Not so fast….

In the infinite wisdom that is the Oklahoma County DA’s office and with the blessing of Oklahoma County Judge Ray Elliot, Gilmore was allowed to leave jail on house arrest and DA’s office supervision (insert eye-roll here).

JohnTV wrote about this head scratching decision just last week.

But, what does JohnTV know? I mean c’mon, certainly highly educated lawyer prosecutors and judges know what’s best in the interest of justice and the safety of the community. Obviously they saw something in Gilmore that assured them that this time he’d play by the rules….. Yeah, what was I thinking. Time and time again JohnTV has proven that Oklahoma County cares more about locking up drug offenders and seizing people’s assets than they do about those who repeatedly and unapologetically sell our daughters into sexual slavery.

This past Friday, a warrant was issued for Gilmore’s arrest after he….. you guessed it…. “failed to comply” with the conditions of his release.

JohnTV has received word that the teen he was prostituting is currently prostituting in Texas – possibly the Dallas area. So Gilmore may have left Oklahoma.

2/4/2014 – Orange County, CA — One of two alleged prostitute serial killers has confessed to murdering at least five women in California; one, a young mother from Oklahoma.

JohnTV first reported on the murder of 21-year-old Jarrae Nykkole Estepp back in March of this year.

Estepp’s nude and “badly damaged” body was discovered on a conveyor belt by employees of an Anaheim recycling center around 10:30 on the morning of March 14th.

Estepp, who was well known to JohnTV, had moved from Oklahoma City to be near her mother in Lawton not long after warrants were issued for her arrest in Oklahoma County and DHS had opened an investigation into the welfare of her newborn child.

Just prior to Estepp’s death she traveled by Greyhound bus to California, rented a room at the Anaheim Lodge, and was making money working the streets while, according to Estepp’s family, in route to see a close relative who was incarcerated in the state’s prison system.

At the time authorities had no idea that Estepp’s discarded body would lead them to two serial murderers – thus preventing more women from falling victim.

Clues found near Estepp’s body blew the case wide open. Investigators found two empty tubes of caulking among the garbage surrounding Estepp and decided to track down their origin.

The caulking tubes, discovered by the keen eye of Anaheim Detective Bruce Linn, were thrown away by window installers who routinely dumped their trash in a dumpster behind Boss Paint and Body at 3421 E. La Palma Avenue.

Estepp’s fingerprints were later found on a recycling bin at the body shop, proving she had been at that location before her death.

Investigators soon learned that registered sex offenders Steven Dean Gordon, 45, and Franc Cano, 27, also were known to frequent the area. Gordon is reported to have owned and lived in an RV that he parked behind the body shop and often worked odd jobs there.

Further investigation revealed that Gordon and Cano were court ordered to wear GPS tracking devices and that those device’s history placed them together and near the scene of Estepp’s murder when it occurred. That same GPS data also placed them in the areas where three other missing and presumed murdered women were last seen.

Additional evidence showed that Cano and Gordon were constantly texting each other and the content of those texts gave chilling insights into the minds of these accused killers.

Gordon and Cano were soon located, questioned and placed under arrest.

According to a recently released grand jury transcript, Gordon confessed to the murder’s of five women during 13 1/2 hours of interrogation by Anaheim Police Detective Julissa Trapp.

To date, only four of the murdered women have been identified and only Estepp’s body has been recovered. The other four bodies are believed to be entombed in tons of garbage in one of two California land fills.

Gordon, who insisted on talking about the murdered women in chronological order, said he and Cano chose their victims at random and that all were area street prostitutes that they’d rape prior to killing and discarding.

All of the murders occurred during a five-month period that ended with the discovery of Estepp’s body on March 14, 2014.

According to Gordon; He would drive around looking for a female engaging in street prostitution and would pick her up while Cano hid, ducked down, in the back cargo area of their Toyota 4-Runner. Once a woman would get inside Gordon’s vehicle, Cano would overpower her from behind while Gordon continued to drive back to the Boss Paint and Body shop.

Once there, Gordon and Cano would take the women inside their RV and rape them.

After the duo had finished with the women, Gordon stated that Cano would strangle each one while he would repeatedly punch them in the chest to knock the air out of them and speed up their deaths.

Some of the women were reportedly wrapped in garbage bags before being discarded in the body shop’s trash dumpster.

Gordon told investigators that he and Cano spotted Estepp soliciting passing cars on Beach Blvd., near Ball early in the evening of March 13th.

GPS data from Cano and Gordon’s ankle monitors confirmed that the men were cruising in the area where Estepp was prostituting that day.

6:50 p.m. Cano’s GPS monitor indicates he is cruising the Beach Blvd. and Lincoln areas.

7:08 p.m. Estepp makes her last phone call from her cell phone while walking near 800 South Beach Blvd. in Western Anaheim.

Estepp is sending and receiving text messages from “Ricky” (in Oklahoma).

8:06 p.m. Ricky sends a text message to Jarrae that goes unanswered.

Cano hid in the back of their 4-Runner as Gordon pulled up to Estepp, who was allegedly arguing with two black males on the sidewalk. Gordon said Estepp hurriedly got into his vehicle and they drove off.

Estepp told Gordon that she didn’t do anything for less than $80 and she wanted to see the cash first.

Gordon told Estepp he didn’t have that much cash on him but would go inside a nearby bank and withdraw it from an ATM.

Gordon told investigators that in reality he didn’t have any money and made up the ATM story to Estepp so that she would assume he had the cash after returning from the bank lobby.

Gordon said that he drove to a motel parking lot and that Estepp moved to the back seat of the 4-Runner and began removing her pants.

8:06 p.m. Cano’s GPS monitor indicates he is in the back parking lot of the Buena Park Hotel.

At that point Cano revealed himself and grabbed Estepp. Gordon then hurriedly drove back to the body shop – some 15 miles away.

8:07 p.m. Estepp’s phone “goes dead” (is either turned off or the battery is removed).

Cano’s GPS monitor showed to be generally north of the 91 Freeway and east of Beach Blvd.

Estepp’s phone continues to receive several calls, but all the calls are dropped straight to voice mail.

Estepp’s phone is never powered on again.

Cano’s GPS monitor indicates he is driving on a highway back to Boss Paint and Body shop.

Once they got Estepp back to their RV, Gordon claims that Estepp performed oral sex on him and then engaged in vaginal intercourse with both he and Cano.

At some point Gordon said he told Cano to leave him alone with Estepp. Gordon then told Estepp to “make love to him like he was her boyfriend.” Afterwards Gordon claims he and Estepp fell asleep.

At some point while Gordon and Estepp were alone in the RV, Gordon and Cano engaged in a spine chilling cell phone text discussion of whether or not to kill Estepp.

After being woke up Estepp said she wanted to leave. All three then reportedly got back into the 4-Runner and Gordon told Estepp he wanted her to stay with them. Estepp protested and Cano began struggling with her.

Gordon said that Estepp produced a small canister of mace and sprayed both men. Cano then grabbed Estepp around the neck while Gordon began punching the air and the life out of her. Gordon made it clear to investigators that Estepp was not an easy victim and they found her very difficult to kill.

Once Estepp was unconscious, they took her out of their vehicle and removed all her clothing.

Gordon said that when he thought Cano wasn’t paying attention he leaned in and kissed Estepp and whispered that he was sorry. Estepp, apparently not dead, began to move. Cano became enraged and stood up and started stomping on Estepp’s head and neck in an effort to kill her once and for all.

When Gordon and Cano were satisfied that Estepp was dead, they tossed her in the dumpster like discarded garbage.

When Estepp’s body was discovered at the recycling center, just hours later, her body was so contorted that employees thought it might have been a mannequin or prop. Investigators said Estepp’s legs were broken and bent to the point bones were protruding through the skin.

Estepp’s skull was crushed so badly that investigators could not positively identify her from her driver’s license photo and instead had to rely on tattoos and finger prints. Those details showed a match to information entered into a police database from when Estepp had been previously detained by police on a prior visit to California in 2013.

Despite Gordon’s version of events – that Estepp basically engaged in consensual prostitution related sexual intercourse with them – the physical evidence points to a violent rape. At autopsy it was revealed that Estepp’s vaginal area suffered from extensive tears and trauma in a way that is common in violent forced consensual sex or rape. Additionally, it was revealed that Estepp was on her period at the time of her death and that a tampon was found lodged inside her vagina — something investigators believe would not have been present had she consented to intercourse.

The most horrific detail revealed at autopsy was the fact that there is evidence that quite possibly Estepp was still alive (but most likely unconscious and gravely wounded) when she was placed in the trash dumpster and subsequently crushed during the compacting process.

Despite a mountain of evidence against them, both Gordon and Cano have pleaded innocent of the charges against them.

Also revealed in the grand jury transcripts was the fact that investigators claim Estepp had a pimp in Oklahoma and a pimp in Fresno. Both pimps were eliminated early on in the investigation as suspects in Estepp’s murder.

Gordon and Cano are next set to appear in court on Jan. 16 for a pretrial hearing.

12/17/2014 – Ardmore, OK — A man who was recently released from prison was arrested earlier this month in Ardmore and charged with prostituting his girlfriend that worked at the prison where he was previously incarcerated.

According to published reports, ex-con Rayford Deon Johnson, 32, was arrested as the result of an online prostitution sting conducted by the Carter County Sheriff’s office, Ardmore Police, and agents with the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics.

Investigators say they were looking into prostitution solicited on sites like Backpage.com when they detained a 38-year-old female for solicitation at an Ardmore Motel 6. The woman has since been identified in online reports as Marion Lindsay Campeau.

According to published reports, while questioning Campeau, agents became convinced that she was working for a Johnson (her pimp) an that he was using physical violence to compel her to prostitute and then taking all of her earnings.

Also learned during Campeau’s questioning was that she met Johnson while he was incarcerated in state prison and that she was, at that time, an employee of the prison.

Johnson was serving time for multiple Tulsa County robbery convictions. After Johnson’s April 2014 release, he and Campeau relocated to Ardmore.

When JohnTV checked online records, we found a felony charge out of Carter County, filed Dec. 8, against Johnson for prostitution-procuring for prostitution.

We also found a separate case filed Nov. 6, against Johnson for five counts of domestic abuse-assault and battery, threatening to perform an act of violence and interference with an emergency telephone call.

Despite law enforcement’s apparent perspective that Campeau was a victim of force, fear and/or coercion which resulted in her prostitution, prosecutors still filed a misdemeanor charge of engaging in prostitution against Campeau on Dec. 8th. Which, in JohnTV’s opinion, sends a very confusing message. At what point is a woman that is apparently being forced to prostitute and turn over her earnings a victim or a criminal defendant – apparently in Carter County they are one in the same.

State law clearly says that when someone is forced to prostitute under force, fear and/or coercion then they are a victim of human trafficking and their perpetrator is a human trafficker.

12/17/2014 – OKC, OK — Its no secret that JohnTV is no fan of guys who solicit prostitution in our city. It’s also no secret that the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s office is pretty useless when it comes to punishing prostitution customers (aka, ‘Johns’). Its well known that most convicted ‘Johns’ receive a fine of less than $60.

But, to be fair, most convicted ‘Johns’ are also first time offenders will little or no other criminal history.

However, considering the maximum punishment for solicitation of prostitution (even a first time offense) is up to a year in jail, a $2,500 fine, $1,900 vehicle impound fee, court costs of $500-$1,000, $40/month DA supervision fee, geographic restrictions, health assessments, and up to 80-hours of community service – you’d expect we’d at least reserve some of that for the scummiest of those within our society? Like, I don’t know, multiple time convicted felons and registered sex offenders???

Apparently not.

Back in April of 2013 JohnTV reported on a S. Robinson Ave. prostitution sting that resulted in the arrest of 11 individuals.

One of those individuals was 29-year-old Jesse Lee Johnson of Oklahoma City.

Johnson, was definitely not a first time offender.

In fact, as pointed out in our March 2014 article, Johnson is a lifetime registered sex offender with a lengthy criminal resume that includes arrests and/or convictions for rape of a child, vehicle theft, obstructing a police officer, possession of a firearm, burglary, larceny, domestic abuse in the presence of a minor, drug offenses and felony larceny.

Johnson was arrested in April of 2013, and subsequently criminally charged in May of that same year with misdemeanor offering to engage.

Being the consistent delinquent that he is, Johnson failed to appear at his Feb. 2014 court date and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

On Sept 29 Johnson pleaded guilty… And, keeping in mind Johnson’s status as a lifetime registered sex offender, long criminal history, inability to even show up for court and the fact he was soliciting prostitution in an area known as a place were the most destitute sell themselves either by force or by choice, what do you think Oklahoma County Assistant DA Michelle McElwee thought was an appropriate punishment? Maybe at least half of the maximum allowable jail time? No? Okay, half of the allowable maximum fine? No, again. Okay, a long probation with DA supervision fees and court costs and maybe a little community service? Nope, nada, zip…

ADA McElwee apparently has a soft spot for Johnson’s dreamy brown eyes and “White Boy” tattoo because she agreed to a sentence of six months of probation and absolutely no fine, no court costs and no probation fees.

Probation! This scum bag is already a lifetime registered sex offender with a felony record. He’s supposed to already be on probation the rest of his life…. The prosecutor didn’t even make his probation come with supervision! This turd literally got a lighter sentence than first time offenders with no prior record at all.

The only positive note seems to be that after JohnTV pointed out (in our March article) that Johnson was a registered sex offender living next door to a elementary school – he apparently relocated to 1312 SE 42nd Street. A home that public records show belongs to a Laura Johnson.

So, the next time a member or law enforcement or the Oklahoma County District Attorneys Office publicly claims to give a rats ass about positively impacting the demand side of prostitution and human trafficking, remember this case. And if Johnson’s hug-a-thug sentence isn’t proof enough, JohnTV has a laundry list of other examples.

12/19/2014 – OKC, OK — A lifelong hooker, drug dealer, and thief previously featured several times on JohnTV made a guest appearance on the season premiere of A&E’s ‘Beyond Scared Straight’ television series.

What is ‘Beyond Scared Straight’ you ask? Think Jerry Springer, meets COPS, meets Dr. Phil.

Basically the producers go from state to state rounding up the juvenile delinquent cream of the crop and then somehow talk their parents into signing away 100% of their privacy rights (most likely for a pretty paltry check) and then have them paraded through a local county jail’s low-budget haunted house of hate and hype.

The highlight is always the moment where some group of inmates takes a break from sharpening tooth brushes into shanks and gets to become drill sergeant, psychologist on crack, reality star for five minutes while they get in the faces of the kids and provide them with a profanity laced peek into their future if they don’t straighten up.

In the end the kids and their parents have a teary-eyed, snot runny nose, half-heart come to Jesus moment where they promise to never do it again (until the shock wears off and the camera lights dim and they realize they’re still juvenile delinquents with barely the skills to flip a burger and none of the motivation to do anything different).

Season 8’s Dec. 4 premiere was more of the same and takes a closer look at the Oklahoma County Jail’s ‘Reality Check’ program.

This episode spotlighted five of Oklahoma’s finest future adult productive members of society; Two teen sisters with bad attitudes who dress like member’s of the Insane Clown Posse,  Brynlee, a 17-year old hillbilly from Choctaw that’s on the fast track to crack addiction and has major hostility issues, a 15-year-old female gang member who really likes to get into fist fights and a 12-year-old female who would rather smoke pot than go to school.

The degenerate that really got our attention though made an appearance about 29-minutes into the 42-minute episode.

Current (and often) guest of the Oklahoma County Jail, Renee Bonnie McCullough, 46, was matched up with Brynlee Gravitt – a Choctaw teen who admitted to getting physically violent with just about everyone, including his mother, mentally disabled father and his brother.

Brynlee remained fairly quite during McCullough’s ranting and raving inside what is probably considered a suite at our county jail. Which is probably a good thing. We’ve seen McCullough on the streets for decades and we’re pretty confident she could have made Brynlee her bitch without much effort.

McCullough was subtitled as “awaiting trial for drug possession.” Which means this episode was filmed prior to Aug. of this year. We know this because McCullough was actually convicted of possession of meth with intent to distribute, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug proceeds, and maintaining a dwelling where drugs are kept back on Aug. 4 and sentenced to 12-years in prison.

This conviction was just another of a multitude of felony criminal convictions for McCullough for everything from prostitution, drugs, robbery and even escape from a penitentiary.

As mentioned at the beginning of this article, McCullough has been featured several times on JohnTV.

Unfortunately, when McCullough gets out of prison, she probably shouldn’t take up motivational speaking.

Seems her little talk with Brynlee didn’t make much of a lasting impression.

According to his parents, he soon gave up on being a good boy and started becoming belligerent and physically abusive towards others not long after his visit to the Oklahoma County Jail.

In fact, court records confirm that in Oct. he was charged in Oklahoma County with two counts of felony assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Personally, Sheriff Whetsel doesn’t need to parade a bunch of their inmates and staff in front of kids to scare the crap out of them about the thought of spending any time in their lovely facility…. Just show them media reports about how in the massively overcrowded Oklahoma County Jail, jailers often seriously hurt or even murder inmates, and when the jailers are not abusing the inmates the inmates are killing each other. Or, how the toilets rarely flush, the facility often floods, the heat and air rarely work and how inmates can go weeks without a hot meal.

That boys and girls should really scare the delinquency out of you!

12/19/2014 – OKC, OK — An Oklahoma City felon who is currently out on bond awaiting trial on pimping charges apparently is so stupid he used his personal cell phone number in a recent prostitution ad.

JohnTV first reported on Markus Markiee Shirley, 38, back in Sept. after he and his ‘bottom bitch’ Michelle Reney Rice, 26, were arrested on charges of human trafficking, drug possession and rape.

Despite the investigating and arresting officers best efforts, the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s office ignored their requests for serious criminal charges and instead went for a single felony charge of pandering against both defendants.

Not that pandering is not considered a serious crime legally speaking. According to Oklahoma law, a conviction is supposed to result in a mandatory minimum sentence of two years in prison. But, as JohnTV continuously points out, Oklahoma County prosecutors and judges care little for justice and more about clearing paperwork off their desks.

Case-in-point, on Oct. 30, Rice pleaded guilty to her felony pandering charge and was only given a $50 fine and no jail time.

On Oct. 20, Shirley posted bond and was released from jail to await trial.

Now, most folks would do their best to keep their nose clean while out on bound and awaiting a trial or reaching a plea agreement. But, apparently not Shirley.

You see, Shirley, like many of us, likes to maintain a social media presence. And, like many of us, he tends to share way too much private information.

For example; On Nov. 6 a friend of Shirley’s, Shonda Hall, posted publicly to Shirley’s Facebook timeline asking for his phone number. To which Shirley publicly replied by posting his phone number…

So, naturally JohnTV went to work seeing what criminality Shirley’s phone number might be attributed to.

And, what do you know… Shirley’s phone number appears in a prostitution Backpage ad dated Nov 8 – just nine days after he bonded out of jail on his pimping charge (see ad below)…

This same phone number is associated with (though not appearing on) other ads currently posted to Backpage. You see, there are ways to search for ads that use a specific account profile contact phone number even if that number doesn’t appear in the ad itself (JohnTV is sneaky smart that way).

In case you’re wondering… Yes, we passed all this information (and more) on to law enforcement as soon as we got it (which was within days of the initial posting).

Lets hope this new revelation leads to a bond revocation and possibly more criminal charges for Shirley.

Shirley is next scheduled to appear in court on Jan 14 of next year.

12/27/2014 (updated 12/29/2014) – OKC, OK — An Oklahoma professor is quoted in recent news articles as stating legislators have drawn the line at the suggestion of allocating funds for human trafficking victims.

In a news story posted to News9.com this past Tuesday (written by AP reporter David Crary), Kirsten Havig (see photo left), a professor of social work at the University of Oklahoma, reportedly was critical as to the extent law makers were willing to go to address victim needs.

Havig was one of a handful of guest speakers at a legislative panel that met this past Sept.

In the article, Havig is quoted as saying….

“[Legislators] were very receptive, and very shocked” – However – “The second I start talking about resource allocation, it’s, ‘We can’t do that,'” she said.

Havig pointed out that Oklahoma lacks a residential facility suited to care for young sex-trafficking victims and some youth have had to be sent to facilities in Houston.

The article pointed out that Oklahoma legislators have been more than willing to enact laws with tougher penalties for convicted sex-traffickers, but have all but ignored those left to pick up the pieces of their lives.

In April JohnTV reported on the three anti-human trafficking bills and questioned whether or not prosecutors would actually utilize them.

It has become painfully obvious that prosecutors within the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s office, under the ‘leadership’ of DA David Prater, are not only completely unwilling to enforce these new laws but often actually go out of their way to avoid even having to deal with them.

In Feb., 36-year-old Jeremy Eugene Steelman of Oklahoma City pleaded guilty to pimping a teenage girl after he was criminally charged with pandering, aiding and abetting prostitution and maintaining a house of prostitution. Despite clear Oklahoma law that states a pandering conviction alone requires a minimum of two-years in prison and a minimum fine of $1,000, prosecutors agreed to only give Steelman five-years of probation and community service. This, despite Steelman’s previous prosecutions for grand larceny, possession of meth and possession of stolen credit cards.

In April of this year 21-year-old Edmond resident Joshua Hudson pleaded guilty to human trafficking and was given probation only and the opportunity to have the entire prosecution wiped from his record. This, after admitting to prostituting a pregnant 16-year-old to as many men as he could get to respond to his Backpage.com ad.

In Oct. Michelle Rice, 26, of Oklahoma City was arrest by investigators with the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics (human trafficking unit). Despite investigators wanting Rice charged with human trafficking, rape, conspiracy and more, she was instead charged with a single count of pandering – To which she pleaded guilty to only two weeks later. Without explanation Rice was only sentenced to pay a $50 fine and given no jail time.

JohnTV will continue to not only spotlight prostitution offenders, but also those within law enforcement and local government that endorse a hug-a-thug mentality and refuse to hold the victimizers responsible for their crimes.

12/29/2014 – Orange County, CA — Orange County prosecutors in California are getting into the public shaming business when it comes to prostitution and human trafficking.

According to published reports, Tony Rackauckas, the Orange County District Attorney, is asking every police agency in his county to forward mugshots of individuals who solicit prostitution so that they can be highlighted on the DA’s website.

The mugshots appear at orangecountyda.org under the tab, “Sex Purchasers.”

At last check, the website contained 75 mugshots of alleged ‘Johns’ with the most recent mugshot dated Feb. of 2014. The site contained the names, criminal charges and sentences of another 112 individuals.

Though DA Rackaukas’ website doesn’t provide any details as to the criteria for being published on the site, it appears the mugshots are posted AFTER the individual is convicted or otherwise pleads guilty.

Media reports indicate that the mugshots and/or identities of the ‘Johns’ will remain online indefinitely.

This new policy naturally has its detractors, like Emma Andersson, staff attorney with the ACLU’s Criminal Law Reform Project. Andersson told reporters that she believes the goal of the criminal justice system should be rehabilitation rather than “the banishment and isolation of individuals from a community.”

Melissa Farley, author and executive director of the nonprofit Prostitution Research and Education, said she is unaware of any evidence that shaming has  resulted in long-term behavioral change in purchasers of sex. Farley emphasized that she thinks it makes more sense to increase the criminal penalties on ‘Johns.’

Orange County prosecutors stand behind their decision. Susan Kang Schroeder, chief of staff for the district attorney, says “These men have to understand when they purchase a woman like she’s a commodity, they’re probably purchasing someone that has been trafficked … They need to stop doing these things, and this is part of the consequences of the action.”

Editorial Response; JohnTV firmly believes in the power of public shaming, but believes its effectiveness is severely limited unless it is supported with public awareness and education campaigns as well as victim services and services for those who offend. JohnTV also believes that increased penalties directed towards pimps and ‘Johns’ is key to not only punish and dissuade but to also fund support social services for those effected by the criminal activity.

1. The public shaming policies of the Orange County DA’s office is not clearly posted on their website.
2. Most of those identified on the website do not have an accompanying mugshot – critical in avoiding misidentification.
3. Identifying information does not include the person’s date of birth – critical in avoiding misidentification.
4. Identifying information does not include a middle name – critical in avoiding misidentification.
5. Identifying information often does not include the date the person was arrested nor the date they were convicted.
6. JohnTV does not like that there is apparently no effort to identify pimps and/or human traffickers as they do the ‘Johns.’

12/29/2014 – JohnTV has often been openly critical of the often lauded ‘Swedish or Nordic Model’ of anti-prostitution laws. A recent Washington Times article gives some credibility to our skepticism….

BERLIN — For years Sweden has been celebrated for its innovative strategy to reduce prostitution — in particular its laws that target not the women but their johns and pimps.

Swedish officials say they have halved the number of streetwalkers, kept the number of prostitution cases level and reduced human trafficking to around 500 victims per year, a fraction of the rate in its Scandinavian neighbors in the years following the adoption of the so-called Kvinnofrid law in 1999.

The Kvinnofrid — “protection of women” — law criminalizes paying for sex but legalizes sex work, treating prostitution as violence against women — a long-held view among feminists in progressive Sweden similar to members of the New York-based Coalition Against the Trafficking in Women.

“It is critically important to look at the demand for core prostitution and the demand that fuels sex trafficking,” said Taina Bien-Aime, the coalition’s executive director. “Prostitution is inherently violence against women. The majority of the people exploited in the sex trade are women.”

But as more and more countries look to adopt the Nordic country’s model, some skeptics are warning that the country’s success at reducing prostitution is an illusion and is not doing nearly enough to stamp out the world’s oldest profession.

While Ms. Bien-Aime and others point to Sweden’s progress in protecting women, some academics and activists say the numbers don’t always hold up: Government statistics say Sweden, which counted 730 streetwalkers in 1999, saw the number fall to 300 by 2008. But the actual figure is far higher when those who work out of bars and solicit via the Internet are included.

“The Swedish model does not have the research supporting those claims,” said Petra Ostergren, a Swedish writer and social commentator specializing on gender politics and prostitution issues. The government “talks about 2,000 to 3,000 sex workers in Sweden, but it is much more than that.”

Ms. Ostergren blames faulty methodology in a 2010 Swedish government study for inspiring myths about the Kvinnofrid law.

Swedish Chancellor of Justice Anna Skarhed, who helped compile the report, defended her findings.

“The results in my report are accurate,” said Ms. Skarhed. “We were very careful not to exaggerate. But anyone who has worked with questions concerning prostitution or trafficking knows that it will never be possible to give exact numbers.”

Pye Jakobsson, a former sex worker and the coordinator at the Rose Alliance, a Stockholm-based sex worker advocacy group, also doesn’t believe that prosecuting johns has curbed the demand for sex work in Sweden.

Another Swedish government report published in 2011 found that eight officers with the Stockholm police spoke to 42 sex workers in a year to provide counseling and help leaving the profession. Ms. Jakobsson thought that number was laughable.

“I talk to more sex workers a month than the Stockholm prostitution unit does in a year,” she said. “I hear [sex workers] complain about a lot of things. But no one complains about lack of clients.”

Ms. Jakobsson also contends that the government isn’t paying sufficient attention to forms of prostitution other than streetwalking. Prostitution is flourishing elsewhere, she said.

“The only baseline [government officials] had was the known street zones,” said Ms. Jakobsson. “But there are many different settings. Some work in casinos, opportunistically in bars or online.”

Ms. Ostergren and Ms. Jakobsson say that instead, the law has increased pressure on sex workers who feel hunted by police in search of johns — the opposite of the law’s intended impact.

“How do you think [police] find the clients? By following random men around?” Ms. Jakobsson said. “No, they target us.”

More difficulties

Although the Kvinnofrid law is the most well known Swedish prostitution law, it works in conjunction with a string of other laws that also present difficulties for prostitutes. For instance, the law against soliciting is supposed to outlaw pimps, but it also effectively outlaws workplaces for sex workers.

“If you rent an apartment, your landlord can be charged with pimping,” Ms. Jakobsson said. “If you perform sex work in an apartment that you own, you have forfeited your right to own it under renter laws and the pimping law.”

The anti-soliciting act makes it difficult for sex workers to find places to live, but it also discourages them from reporting abuse.

Sophie, 35, has worked as a prostitute since the age of 13. When she suffered domestic abuse from her partner, she didn’t dare to go to the authorities.

“I didn’t call the police then, because I know that my partner would say that I’m a sex worker,” Sophie said. “Then I would have to tell my story to the police. I would be in the papers, and my apartment would be staked out.”

Other sex workers said the anti-soliciting law forced them to remain in the shadows too.

The Rose Alliance conducted the biggest study on prostitutes in Sweden, interviewing 124 sex workers this year. Thirty-six reported violent attacks from clients. Nine — 25 percent — felt comfortable reporting the incident to the police. But even of those nine, only two said that they would report a future attack to authorities.

Still, other countries have been drawn to the reported successes of the Swedish approach: Iceland and Norway have adopted Sweden’s measures against sex work over the past five years, while Ireland and Canada are in the process of enacting similar laws now, and Stockholm’s approach still has some strong supporters.

Canada’s parliament adopted a law last month criminalizing the purchase of sex, but even there some are questioning the Swedish model. A new position paper by the Canadian Public Health Association said the law did not address the “root causes and pathways” that lead to prostitution, while it could put sex workers in even greater danger.

“We looked at all the evidence that was available, and we didn’t see a significant decrease in demand around the purchase of sex in countries where the Nordic model has been adopted,” CPHA Executive Director Ian Culbert told CMAJ, the country’s leading medical journey. “But we did see that it continues to place the sex workers’ safety at risk.”

Still, the Stockholm approach has it supporters.

“This Swedish experiment is the single, solitary example in a significant-sized population of a prostitution policy that works,” Marie De Santis, a blogger for the website JusticeWomen.com, wrote earlier this month. “The failures and futility of the revolving door of arresting and rearresting prostitutes is all too familiar the world over.”

Some human rights organizations, such as Amnesty International, remain undecided when it comes to the Swedish sex work laws. At the moment, Amnesty International officials are conducting their own studies in six different countries to see how different models of criminalization and decriminalization affect prostitution and sex trafficking.

“As of now, we do not have a position on the Nordic model,” said Elisabeth Lofgren, the press secretary for the Swedish branch of Amnesty International. “There will be no decision until, [at] earliest, next summer, after more studies are released on the topic.”

12/30/2014 – Washington — A California man pleaded guilty earlier this month in federal court in connection with his ownership and operation of a website dedicated to the promotion of prostitution nationally.

According to court paperwork, 53-year-old Eric Omuro, known as ‘Red’, operated a multi-million dollar prostitution organization out of his Mountain View, CA home.

The website, MyRedBook.com (formerly SFredbook.com) contained hundreds of thousands of blatant advertisements and postings related to the promotion of prostitution throughout the United States and Canada.

Federal prosecutors argued that Omuro, and his female co-defendant Annemarie Lance, 40, of Rocklin, CA, engaged in criminal activity related to the interstate facilitation of prostitution via the USPS and the Internet. Prosecutors also argued that the pair engaged in money laundering to the tune of millions of dollars.

Omuro was arrested on June 25, 2014 following his federal indictment. He was released after his arrest on an unsecured $500,000 bond.

Federal investigators immediately seized Omuro’s domain names MyRedBook.com and SFredbook.com and posted the following ominous notice…

Prosecutors argued that Omuro’s website went beyond the boundaries of free speech and that Omuro actively participated and monetarily enriched himself from the promotion and facilitation of prostitution activities.

MyRedBook.com hosted advertisements for prostitution, complete with explicit pictures, lewd physical descriptions, menus of sexual services, hourly and nightly rates, and customer reviews of the prostitutes’ services.

The website used acronyms for numerous sex acts, which were defined in graphic detail in the website’s “Terms and Acronyms” section. Although the website could be accessed for free, myredbook.com advertised fees for premier placement of prostitution advertisements and for “VIP Memberships,” which purportedly allowed customers access to “private forums” and heightened capabilities to search reviews of the prostitution services.

In addition to shutting down MyRedBook.com, federal prosecutors also seized more than $5-million in property and cash in Omoro’s possession.

Authorities execute a search warrant on Omuro’s residence.

Omuro pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge William H. Orrick of the Northern District of California to using a facility of interstate commerce with the intent to facilitate prostitution.

Lanoce pleded guilty Nov. 20, 2014, for assisting Omuro with the operations.

Omuro’s sentencing is set for March 26, 2015, and Lanoce’s sentencing hearing is set for March 19, 2015.

JohnTV could find no evidence contained within court documents supporting the media hype that MyRedBook.com and its owners knowingly engaged in forced prostitution, child prostitution or human trafficking. In fact, most evidence showed the women who promoted themselves on the website were engaged in consensual prostitution.

Additionally, federal prosecutors have not provided any information as to why MyRedBook.com was targeted while other much larger websites like Backpage.com, Preferred411.com and ECCIE.net have not been targeted for seizure and criminal prosecution.
