5/29/2014 – OKC, OK — Score one for the good guys! A local felon pimp has been bound over for trial on a human trafficking charge and had a prior probation revoked – sending him back to prison!
JohnTV first reported on longtime felon 32-year-old Quwan Shamar Harrison back in Oct. of last year after he was arrested on a human trafficking complaint.
According to court records, on Oct. 8, Harrison was doing what Harrison does best – preying on women and pimping them out as many times a day as possible.
Around 11 p.m. undercover officers responded to an ad for prostitution that was posted online. The officers were directed to room #117 at the Travelodge on NW Expressway in NW OKC.
Once there an undercover male officer came into contact with a 17-year-old female that agreed to perform a specific sexual act in exchange for $250. While the juvenile was being taken into custody, Harrison reportedly tried to enter the motel room through a back patio door.
Police report that Harrison’s cell phone contained text messages to and from the juvenile regarding her prostitution activities.
Harrison was booked into the Oklahoma County Jail and held on a $100,000 bond.
On Oct. 17, Harrison was formally charged in Oklahoma County court with felony human trafficking.
In Jan. of this year Harrison was somehow able to post bond and was released from jail.
On Apr. 4, of this year, the Oklahoma County DA’s office filed a motion to revoke Harrison’s existing probation on a July 2007 felony conviction for two felony counts of shooting with intent to kill.
In that case Harrison pleaded guilty and was sentenced to six years of prison, followed by 10-years of probation.
Last Friday, Oklahoma County Judge Ray Elliot heard the state’s motion to revoke and upheld it – sending Harrison back to prison for 10-years.
Yesterday Harrison appeared for his preliminary hearing regarding his human trafficking charge.
The first to be called to testify against Harrison was his female teen victim. As an example of how difficult it can be to successfully prosecute alleged human traffickers and pimps – it should be pointed out that the teen victim in this case had to be arrested and held in custody to secure her testimony as a material witness.
It is not uncommon for victims of human traffickers and pimps to be reluctant to testify. If the victim does not appear in court or can otherwise not be located, successful prosecution is virtually impossible.
Late yesterday afternoon it was determined the prosecution had provided enough evidence to bind Harrison over for trial.
Harrison, who will now remain in custody, is next set to appear in court on July 9.
It should also be noted that Harrison’s revocation and bind over for trial came as a result of the work done by Oklahoma County Assistant District Atttorney Eric Epplin.
